Dog dental care is as important as nutrition. To have a healthy dog
the human needs to do a few things. Dog dental care awareness is one of them.
If your dog isn't a rawhide bone chewer, eats soft food or just
has tarter buildup,
brushing your dog's teeth is probably a good idea.
Brush my dogs teeth. Are you kidding me?
This really can be a pleasurable experience for you & your dog.
Think of how good it feels after you've brushed your teeth. Aaaah yes!
That clean, fresh feeling is so incredible.
My beautiful smile is sparkling.
If you're dog doesn't chew then the nasty dog teeth tarter demons are moving in.
Then dog gingivitis, gum disease, tooth loss, pain and really raunchy breath.
It's all ugly.

Buy your dog a tooth brush (the finger kind is best) with flavored doggie toothpaste.
Don't use human paste like Crest or Aqua Fresh.
These will only create mouth and gum problems and could make your dog sick.
At first, just sit with your dog and gently rub the outside cheeks with your finger.
Do this 2, 3, 4 times. Every dog is different.
Dalai Lama dog only needs 2 rubbing sessions.
Hurricane, frantic or anxious dog needs 5, 6 or 7.
Whatever it is, it's fine.

After your dog is comfortable with the outside lip rubbing,
put a little doggie toothpaste on your finger and let them take a taste. Usually they like it.
Fortunately, you've purchased the flavored paste because you're an informed human.
Praise, praise, praise. All dogs lap up the loving!

Your next session is with the brush and the paste.
Put a little dog paste on the brush and gently rub, in a very slow circular motion
Do 1 or 2 teeth to start (be sure to include the gum area).
This session gets your dog used to the feel of the brush and how it sounds.
Finally you have reached the place where you're brushing
1-2 more teeth every day. Soon you'll do the whole mouth.
It's very important to pay attention to your dogs energy
while tooth brush training.
Stop the brushing session before your dog starts to squirm.
If you stop before your dog gets uncomfortable,
then the sessions get easier and faster.
Over the next 7, 10 or 20 Days, depending on your unique dog,
you've worked up to brushing all your dogs teeth.
Brush for about 30 seconds per side.
You only really need to brush the outside of the teeth
because dog tarter does not flourish on inside teeth.
You have successfully trained your dog
to let a human brush their teeth,
dimished your dog dental bills
and probably prolonged
your dogs life due to better dental hygiene.
